10 Responses I Yelled at My TV During the Debate

1)      Romney was asked if there was anything he would like to ask President Obama.

Mr. President you enjoy making the claim that I would like to resort back to the same old top down economic model that President Bush used, which you say is “how we got into this mess”. I assume you are talking about tax cuts for the rich. Can you explain to the American people how the Bush tax cuts caused the collapse of the housing market and “the worst recession since the Great Depression”?

2)      In response to the $5 trillion in tax cuts claim:

Closing loopholes will make up for the lost revenue from lowering rates because more income will be taxed at the lower rate than at the higher rate. Loopholes that he wants to cut will not be written in stone because then he cannot work with Congress to pass legislation. The loopholes need to be debated and discussed on the floor of Congress, not it backrooms like Obamacare. Also, I look at the economy in a dynamic way. I know that cutting rates will grow the economy and increase revenue because more people will have jobs and pay taxes. The study you are quoting does not take that into account.  The $5 trillion claim is a static way of looking at the economy.

3)      President Obama uses President Clinton as a crutch to fall back on:

Clinton worked with a Republican house because he had leadership experience as a Governor, President Obama lacks that experience. Clinton lowered the capital gains tax rate, Obama want to raise it. Clinton served during a relatively peaceful time as compared to previous Presidents, so defense spending was being decreased. Clinton’s economy was a result of a booming technology sector due to the “dot-com” bubble. The “dot-com” bubble was not a result of Clinton’s policies. Clinton never left Bush a surplus. Clinton borrowed the surpluses coming into the Social Security Trust to pay down the public debt. However, the intergovernmental debt (money that the government borrows from itself) went up. It was an accounting trick. Also, the “dot-com” bubble burst went Bush took over, so the “surpluses” that were on paper never actually amounted to anything. Bush inherited a recession not a surplus.

4)      $10 of spend cuts for every $1 of tax increases:

Every time that proposition is accepted the tax increase happens immediately and the spending cuts happen gradually over 10 years, or never at all. Ask Bush Sr. or Ronald Reagan about that.

5)      Big Bird and PBS:

Big Bird does not need PBS, PBS needs Big Bird.  Sesame Street brings in millions of dollars and could survive without government help. Since they are successful I feel confident that they would survive in the private market. If PBS cannot survive in the private market, then that means customers do not want it. So the government should not pay for it.

6)      Medicare and “vouchers”:

The premium support model is the same model that members of Congress use. The private companies must structure a policy that meets the needs and the requirements of Medicare in order to participate.  Competition will create perks like it does in any industry so it can win over new customers. Look at how cable companies use perks to get new customers. I’ve never heard someone say they wish there was only one cable provider. The only complaint I hear is that there is not enough competition.

7)      Healthcare costs:

Romney should have stated that his healthcare place includes tort reform and competition across state lines. In order to bring down costs doctors need to stop duplicating tests to avoid medical malpractice lawsuits. People would be shocked if they knew how much a doctor pays for liability insurance every year. Also, competition always reduces cost. There is no reason someone in Ohio shouldn’t be able to buy insurance from a company in Colorado. This is allowed with car insurance, why not medical? The President was offered these solutions from Paul Ryan and turned them down. Instead he thinks reducing the reimbursement to doctors and raising taxes on medical devices will bring down the costs.

8)      Dodd-Frank:

Big banks hire lawyers to get around these regulations, but small community banks get tied up in red tape. Chris Dodd and Barney Frank are not only the authors of this bill, but they are also responsible for the crisis in the first place. We need to be honest about what caused the housing collapse and the recession. It was Liberals in Washington who thought that it was Big Government’s responsible to help people own a home…even when they couldn’t afford to do so. The problem in this case was over regulation that forced banks to lend to people, using Fannie & Freddie to prop up those subprime loans, which then packaged them together. Like always, it was Big Government that caused crony capitalism. Most importantly, the Dodd-Frank bill does not even address Fannie & Freddie in the legislation.

9)      Role of government:

Government can only promise us equal opportunity, not equal outcomes. President Obama wants to micromanage the American economy to create his idea of social justice, yet he has never managed anything before in his life. The free market works better with Adam Smith’s invisible hand not Uncle Sam’s.

10)   Federal government’s role in education:

Colorado should not send its tax dollars to Washington D.C. so it can give them to New York because their schools are failing. They should keep their money and use it for their own schools. Secondly, who in America would be content if they could only use the gas station in their own town, or grocery store, movie theater, or shopping mall?  If we would be outraged over the lack of choices for those things, then we should be applauded that we allow that to happen with our public schools. If you want more teachers to be hired, create more schools for them to work in. If you want teachers to be paid more, then allow districts to fire poor teachers. Our public schools are a small microcosm of Socialism. Government controlled, no choice, mediocre pay because it must be fair for all workers meaning no rewards or incentives for excellence, benefits promised that can’t be kept, and it results in failure.  Allow each school district to create a system to test their students, grade their schools, and evaluate their teachers. Parents and students need choice and they need it now.

A Belated Obama Vetting

As we are deep into the 2012 GOP Republican primaries, the 24-hour news cycle is in high gear. Considering that that only Republican candidates are in full campaign mode right now, most of the media attention is aimed toward them. We all believe that people deserve to know, to some degree, who the candidates are so that they can make the right voting decision. This process (vetting) is expected, and some may argue that this is the main reason this primary is taking so long to declare a nominee. Vetting is a good thing! However, will the media play fair once the democratic liberal President, Barack Obama, steps into the ring? The media has set the bar high for their attention to detail of every debate, speech, ad, word, and at times singing ability. Will the same meticulous eye be cast on President Obama? If history can give any insight, then the answer is NO. President Obama was rarely scrutinized in the 2008 election. There was some at first when the media was still in Hillary Land, but once Obama caught on they never looked back. This was even a complaint of the Clinton camp. For a very young, and mostly unknown candidate to run for President, vetting was at a minimum. The public deserved to hear all and every background story, even if may seem crazed. Lord knows Christine O'donnell would agee (the 2010 Delaware Senate candidate that lost due to hear "witch" comments on MTV in her college years) The "Birther" issue really turned the public against any controversial stories, but the story that was really looked over was Obama's ties to Chicago's radicals. Now I am not a "Birther" and I do not think President Obama is a radical extremist who wants to destroy our government and country, but I do feel any controversial deserves a quick peek behind so we know the character of a person. I mean come one it was worth the time to search Sarah Palin's email history word by word, and even moved in next door to gets details for a book. So as I do not endorse any controversial narratives, I would like to layout the narrative that is currently resurfacing against President Obama. I will do my best to use a balanced array of sources, but it may be hard to find video of these things on NBC. I will try to deliver the narrative in chronological order of the "radical" ties of President Obama building up to the current release of the "Obama College Tapes" released by Breitbart.com. From there I will post videos and information as it surfaces.

1. President Obama is alleged to have began his career in the living room of Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn. Bill Ayers is considered a domestic terrorist for his work with The Weather Underground. It was also rumored that Ayers was a ghostwriter for Obama's book Dreams of My Father. He is know a Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The following videos and posts will outline Bill Ayers' radical past, and his affiliations linked to President Obama.

II. FBI agent talks about the motives behind the Weather Underground and their mission after being undercover in the organization.

III. NYPD detectives share their knowledge of Bill Ayers and the Weather Underground.

IV. This was brought up occasional by Hillary Clinton and John McCain during the 2008 election.

VI. Although his radical past, Bill Ayers is considered an accomplished professor of education, and is even invited to speak at other Universities. Pittsburgh Tribune Review reports on Bill Ayers' visit to the University of Pittsburgh's Council of Graduate Students in Education

V. Recently a controvery has sprung up with the denial of request for Ayers to be awarded emeritus status at the University of Illinois.
Bill Ayers denied emeritus status at UIC
Son of RFK — now U. of I. board chair — rips prof for dedicating book to his father’s assassin
When retiring University of Illinois at Chicago professor Bill Ayers co-wrote a book in 1973[sic], it was dedicated in part to Sirhan Sirhan, the assassin of Robert F. Kennedy.
That came back to haunt Ayers when the U. of I. board, now chaired by Kennedy’s son, considered his request for emeritus status Thursday. It was denied in a unanimous vote.
Before the vote, an emotional Chris Kennedy spoke out against granting the status to Ayers.
“I intend to vote against conferring the honorific title of our university to a man whose body of work includes a book dedicated in part to the man who murdered my father, Robert F. Kennedy,” he said.
“There is nothing more antithetical to the hopes for a university that is lively and yet civil, or to the hopes of our founding fathers for their great experiment of a self-governing people, than to permanently seal off debate with one’s opponents by killing them.”
While this topic did come up in debates, and one or two interviews, I think in retrospect the scrutiny does not compare to today's vetting intensity. The connection between  Barack Obama and Bill Ayers is a controversy up for debate. The following continues Barack Obama's ties to Chicago's radicals .

2. Reverend Jeremiah Wright was the pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. President Obama fell into a controversy once information surfaced about Obama's legacy at the church for 20 years. The reason this became a big deal was the fact that Rev. Wright is considered a radical who preaches black liberation theology, and white supremacy's influence on racial politics in American The following elaborates on this narrative.

I. ABC News does a segment explaining Rev. Wright's past and his ties to the Obama's.

II. During the 2008 election Wright began preaching politics from the pulpit, and Hillary was outspoken about it.

III. Interview with Barack Obama discussing his book, and his appreciation for Rev. Wright.

IV.  The connection between Barack Obama and Rev. Wright are as follows.

  • Barack Obama first met Wright in the late 1980s, while he was working as a community organizer.
  • Wright officiated at the wedding ceremony of Barack and Michelle Obama,
  • Wright also conducted the the Baptism of their children
  • The title of Obama's 2006 memoir, The Audacity of Hope, was inspired by one of Wright's sermons, which  was also a theme of Obama's 2004 keynote address to the Democratic National Convention.
  • Wright was scheduled to give the public invocation before Obama's presidential announcement, but Obama withdrew the invitation the night before the event.
  • In 2007, Wright was appointed to Barack Obama's African American Religious Leadership Committee, a group of over 170 national black religious leaders who supported Obama's bid for the Democratic nomination.
  • On May 31, 2008, Barack and Michelle Obama announced that they had withdrawn their membership in Trinity United Church of Christ stating that "Our relations with Trinity have been strained by the divisive statements of Reverend Wright, which sharply conflict with our own views".
(These facts are not cited, but they can easily be researched and backed up)

3. Once the Obama Presidency began one controversy that arose was the alleged racial influence throughout the Justice of Department (DOJ). The narrative that is being told is that the Obama Administration only sees racism as White on Black, not Black on White. Attorney General Eric Holder came under fire with the incident of voter intimidation in Philadelphia with the New Black Panther Party (NBPP). The following clips explain who the NBPP  is, and how the DOJ threw out the case due to racial motives.

I. The background of the NBPP and their views on whites.

II. Raw video of the incident where two lead members of the NBPP stood outside a polling location with a knight stick. Voter intimidation was accused of these two members.

III. After this incident occurred, a case was built against the NBPP members under the Bush DOJ, but it was later dismissed after alleged orders from within the Obama DOJ. Christian Adams, a whistle blower, spoke out about what he claimed was happening within the DOJ and how race was a main factor. Megan Kelly of Fox News was a key character in  breaking the full story.

IV. Christian Adams speaks about other racial elements to the DOJ under Eric Holder.

4. While most of what we've heard so far shows the radical side of people President Obama has been associated with through different connections, many began to wonder what influences have been made on his own views. It is alleged that Obama also has the same views of the world that come through a racial lens. While many would argue most black Americans have a right to see the world and race differently, others claim that this Chicago radical view is far more extreme. It follows more of a Malcolm X narrative rather than Martin Luther King Jr's. The following clip discusses the incident of when professor Gates was arrested in his house by the Cambridge Police after calls of a break in. With Gates being a friend of President Obama's, he made comments that stirred up a controversy of how Obama views race in the world. This later led to what is now known as the "Beer Summit".

I. The Q&A at the press conference that set the controversy off.

II. Professor Henry Louis Gates tells his side of the story

III. Sgt. James Crowley tells his side of the story and expresses his opinion on the President's comments.

III. This video references the infamous "beer summit" that was arranged at the White House to mend relations after President Obama's comments. While the "Beer Summit" was a minor incident that exploded over a bad statement by a new President, many claim it does fit the narrative of Obama's mindset.

5. The new edition to the Obama narrative is the release of video that shows then Harvard law student Barack Obama speaking at a protest in support of a alleged radical Harvard Law professor. These tapes have been hyped and released by the late Andrew Breitbart and his coalition of citizen journalist at Breitbart.com. Here is how the narrative is shaping and connecting to past narratives.

I. Andrew Breitbart speaks at CPAC 2012 and reveals he is in possession on tapes of Obama in his college years.

II. After the unexpected death of Andrew Breitbart at the age of 48, the tapes were released. The following  narrative is being laid out and will lead into the 2012 Presidential election. The following videos are contributions to the conversation across the media outlets.

(The best example of the main stream media covering for Obama and being called on it)

III. Some earlier quotes of President Obama regarding the civil rights movement and the Constitution.
